Jordan’s optimal location in the solar belt makes it ideal for photovoltaic systems. Remote areas heavily rely on solar power for lighting and water heating, among others. In 2020, Jordan’s biggest solar installation, Baynouna Solar Power Plant, became operational. The 200 MW plant provides electricity to the equivalent of 160,000 households. In 2020, Jordan had 1.7 GW of installed capacity, but this is expected to increase to 2.7 GW by the end of 2023.
