Turkey benefits from high geothermal potential, due to geological formations such as the Western Anatolian Graben systems. As of 2021, geothermal power operating capacity in Turkey was 1 696 MW. Turkey alone accounts for one tenth of global geothermal capacity. There is still a way to go, however, before reaching its full potential, which is estimated at 5 GW.
