La Esperanza Wind Park, located in the Negrete commune, was constructed in 2015 near the Bio Bio river and began to generate clean energy in April 2016. La Esperanza has a 10.5 MW total capacity divided in five 100 m height and 110 m diameter wind turbines of 2.1 MW each. The total annually generation is in the order of 30 GWh.
The park constitutes a contribution of clean and renewable energy with little environmental intervention and friendly coexists with the traditional agricultural and livestock local activities. In addition, the operation of La Esperanza contributes to lower electricity rates for the inhabitants of Negrete, according to the Law of Tariff Equity that favors the communes that have electricity generating plant.
The Negrete commune is located among five water courses, the Bío Bío river by the North, the Renaico river by the South, the Vergara river by the West and the Bureo river and the Rapelco creek by the East. The five wind turbines are named by these five main rivers; Bìo Bìo, Renaico, Vergara, Bureo, Rapelco.
