Gruma's Renewable Energy Sourcing Philosophy

Since its foundation, GRUMA has been a company convinced of the fundamental importance of sustainability and responsible practices, as well as fulfilling the commitment to support the planet and its natural resources. Efficiency and process improvement is part of the way it operates. The Company recognizes the environmental impacts of its operations, the importance of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, its water and non-renewable energy consumption, as well as promoting sustainable agriculture and preserving biodiversity. As part of this responsibility, GRUMA constantly invests internal and external resources to identify opportunities for improvement and mitigation. Sourcing renewable electricity in the form of EACs is one such measure.

The production of renewable electricity is certified by Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). These are the accepted legal instrument through which claims of renewable energy generation and consumption are substantiated in the global renewable energy market. There are different types of EAC for different regions of the world, and they are all in compliance with the quality criteria set by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol in the latest Scope 2 guidance document.
