Every five years since 1993, AISIN has prepared “AISIN Consolidated Environmental Action Plans”, which outline specific actions to be taken in order to promote environmentally conscious operations. In 2020, the group cemented their goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
In addition, AISIN has committed to the Science-Based Targets Initiative, with a goal to reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 46.2% by FY2031 relative to a FY2020 base year.
Their initiatives to achieve these goals include, for instance, reducing emissions through energy-related measures. In manufacturing, for example, AISIN has been reducing energy usage through extensive energy-saving activities and the development of innovative production technology, while also gradually implementing and switching over to clean energy sources such as renewable energy and alternative energy.
The production of renewable electricity is certified by Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). These are the accepted legal instrument through which claims of renewable energy generation and consumption are substantiated in the global renewable energy market. There are different types of EAC for different regions of the world, and they are all in compliance with the quality criteria set by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol in the latest Scope 2 guidance document.
